Therapeutic Yoga
Therapeutic yoga is a gentle incorporation of physical postures, breathwork and visualization to specifically accomodate and address issues of:
- tight or imbalanced muscles and joints,
- decreased strength
- abnormal muscle tone,
- poor balance and/or coordination,
- impaired mobility
- pain, and
- impaired focus and concentration
Therapeutic Yoga sessions are individually tailored to your specific needs and are meant to be gentle and restorative. Props, such as blankets, chairs, blocks, or bolsters, may be used to make the poses accessible and attainable. Therapeutic Yoga sessions offer the student the opportunity to gently restore balance to their physical bodies, explore and change their relationship with pain or discomfort, and safely accomodate any pre-existing medical conditions.
Meditation and visualization techniques serve to provide the student with solace from their physical discomfort as well as to provide them with a variety of "tools" to use in the midst of life's stressors. The inter-relationship and inter-dependence of the mind, the heart and the physical body is honored and directly worked with in therapeutic Yoga sessions. Students find that they are able to make more skillful choices to manage their fear, stress and anxiety, creating a lightness and joyfulness.
